Environmental Policy and Institutional Reform in Azerbaijan

Gnarly Tree Sustainability Institute team members Kenneth Richards and Stephanie Hayes Richards, together with team members Matthew Auer and Jack Wittman, were asked by the U.S. Agency for International Development and World Learning to evaluate Azerbaijan’s legislation, regulations, and institutions for environmental protection. The team performed a desk review of Azerbaijan’s environmental policies including their legal and institutional documents, referenced environmental protection efforts in the European Union, conducted interviews with relevant stakeholders (from government, non-governmental organizations, and the business community), and briefed USAID and Azerbaijan’s Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources on the findings.
